# How do I add a stopover, day trip, or starting point to my trip?

Short visits without an overnight stay all use the same mechanic in Stippl: a destination set to **0 nights** becomes a "stopover". Here is how to use it for the three situations people ask about most.

###### Add a stopover

1. Add the place as a destination to your trip.
2. Decrease its nights to 0 using the minus control on the destination row. Instead of an end date, it now shows as a **stopover**.

|| If a destination has a booked hotel and you change it to 0 nights, Stippl asks you to confirm first, since the booked night is removed from your plan.

###### Day trips from your base

For a day trip you often don't need a stopover at all: add the places you'll visit in the nearby city directly to a day of your base destination. Open the day in the day-by-day view, use the add button, and search for the place. See ["How do I plan my trip day by day?"](https://stippl.crisp.help/en/article/how-do-i-plan-my-trip-day-by-day-1d8uu1y/) for the full walkthrough.

If you want the day trip to appear as its own step on your route and map, add the city as a 0-night stopover between two stays at your base destination instead.

###### Your starting point and flights from home

Transport in Stippl always runs between two destinations. To start your trip with a flight from home, add your home city as the first destination with 0 nights, then add the flight from there to your first stop. Do the same at the end of the trip for your return flight. Full steps in ["How do I add my flight details?"](https://stippl.crisp.help/en/article/how-do-i-add-my-flight-details-1vxs46i/).
