# How do validity periods and data packages work?

Each Stippl eSIM comes with a fixed amount of data that is valid for a set number of days. You must use that data before either the data limit or time runs out.

###### When does the validity start?

Stippl eSIMs activate when they first connect to a supported local network in your destination country — not when you install the eSIM or purchase it.

* You can install the eSIM before your trip without starting the clock
* The validity period begins the moment you connect to a local network abroad

###### Example:

A "3GB / 7-day" plan gives you 3GB of data usable anytime within 7 days of activation (not 3GB per day). If you use all 3GB on day 2, the eSIM stops working even though 5 days remain.

###### What happens when your plan runs out?

If you run out of data or your validity period ends, your eSIM will stop providing a connection. You can check whether your eSIM supports top-ups in the Stippl app — look for the **Top up now** button on your eSIM.
